Dolph Ziggler says things are currently on hold with WWE and is vaguely teasing the possibility of one day joining All Elite Wrestling.

Ziggler made the comments during an interview conducted this weekend by entertainment journalist Chris Van Vliet. The two connected at Dolph's home in Phoenix. Despite the geography of it all, Ziggler claimed he wouldn't be competing Sunday night at Chase Field.

"Technically I am still under contract, yes, but I am not scheduled to be at the Royal Rumble," Ziggler said in the 25-minute interview.

On his future in wrestling, the 38-year-old said he's been looking to get some time off for awhile -- and he finally got it.

"For now I am on a hiatus with WWE," Ziggler said. "Like I said, we have a handshake agreement which is different from what's on paper. I've given everything and we'll see if there is more for me to give, I'll be happy to be a part of it."

Ziggler denied rumors that's he looking to transition into a backstage role. He says something like that may be a possibility another 10 years down the line -- essentially saying he's not done in the ring yet.

When it comes to the possibility of jumping ship, the two-time World Heavyweight Champ left the door open while carefully choosing his words.

"I have some other things going on at the moment but that should always be an option for anybody especially someone like me who has been around for a long time," Ziggler said. "So you never know. I think it would be great, I think it would be a great addition to that company which seems to be for true wrestlers who love the sport and the business. It's a great idea."
