Prepare for even more wrestling content on the WWE Network next year … because the company announced that they’re holding a tournament to crown the first ever United Kingdom Champion.
Triple H delivered the news at a press conference at the O2 Arena in London saying, “Today, we’re excited to announce that we will crown, for the first time ever, a WWE United Kingdom Champion. We will crown that champion live, on the WWE Network, during a special two-night tournament . . . ”
According to WWE.com, the tournament will take place January 14th and 15th at the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool. It will showcase 16 competitors from Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Those scheduled to perform include Trent Seven, Pete Dunne, and Tyler Bate.
Nigel McGuinness — who recently left ROH — will call the tournament with Michael Cole.
According to Triple H, the company intends to use the competition as a launching pad for a new weekly show that will be produced in the UK. No word yet on when that show will launch.
