Matt Hardy Hits Roadblock in Attempt to Trademark Broken Gimmick

trademark broken matt hardy roadblock

Matt Hardy‘s battle for control of the Broken Universe hit a snag on Thursday … as the US Patent and Trademark Office is forcing the wrestler to make changes to his filing.

As we first reported, Hardy filed the application for the “Broken Matt Hardy” gimmick back in March — but now he’s been issued an initial refusal because it, “… identifies only the name of a particular character/personal name; it does not function as a service mark to identify and distinguish applicant’s services from those of others and to indicate the source of applicant’s services.”

TL;DR – Hardy filed without listing the services the gimmick provides, namely merchandise.

As we previously reported … the Hardy family hired legal council in April to fight Ed Nordholm and Anthem over control of the gimmick, but the owners of Impact Wrestling aren’t backing down.

Matt now has six months to respond or else the application will be … DELETED!
