Following the death of Hana Kimura last week, it’s been announced that the current season of the reality show she was on has been cancelled.
The show’s broadcaster Fuji TV released a statement on the matter Wednesday night.
“We would like to express our sincere condolences for the death of Hana Kimura, who appeared on the program. We also deeply mourn the bereaved families,” the statement reads. “Regarding ‘TERRACE HOUSE TOKYO: 2019-2020,’ we have decided to stop recording, broadcasting, and distribution on FOD in the future. We take this issue very seriously and would like to continue to earnestly respond to it.”
Kimura’s cause of death has not been confirmed. However, Japanese media reports of an apparent suicide, possibly caused by cyberbullying from fans of the show.
For those unfamiliar, “Terrace House” follows three men and women living together temporarily in Tokyo. The show grew in popularity after being picked up by Netflix.
Additionally in the wake of Kimura’s passing, government officials in Japan have said they’re looking into ways to identify/punish cyberbullies.
