The photo Summer Rae recently posted on Snapchat in a neck traction device wasn't for storyline purposes ... sources tell us the wrestler is dealing with multiple injuries.

Pro Wrestling Sheet has learned the former Total Divas star was evaluated by WWE doctors last month and results revealed that she was dealing with neck, back and elbow issues.

We're told Summer had been in pain for months, but didn't stop wrestling until MRI results determined how bad the injury was. According to Cagematch.net, she last wrestled in mid-August.

Our sources tell us the wrestler is scheduled to meet again with doctors in October.
