Seth Rollins Says WWE Doesn’t Need The Rock to Wrestle at WM35

WWE loves showcasing part-time performers like The Rock at WrestleMania, but Seth Rollins believes it’s time to move on from that to build new household names.

Rollins recently spoke with Sports Illustrated and was asked about the idea of Dwayne Johnson stepping in the ring at WrestleMania 35. “I love Rocky,” he explained. “I think he’s great. Love everything he’s done for this business. But my gut, my first instinct, says we don’t need him.”

Adding, “If we’re not the guys who can main event WrestleMania, then how are we ever gonna be The Rock? How are we gonna be Stone Cold Steve Austin? We can’t hold onto these guys forever. We just can’t. To me, let’s do Seth Rollins-Roman Reigns before we do Seth Rollins-The Rock. That’s me.”

When asked if he understands that it’s good for the business to get Johnson’s audience to tune into Mania, Seth replied: “I get it. But at some point, we gotta move on from that.”

  1. Disagree. WWE could use Dwayne Johnson.

I disagree. Mania will sell out no matter who is on the card. Mania is free if you sign up for a month… ANd, that’s what the casuals will do. Get the network for free for mania, realize that Rock is a one shot deal… And, they’ll cancel the network after mania.

      • I disagree to disagree. LOL.

Just kidding. But for real, they do need him for Wrestlemania 35 and for Fox debut in October 2019. Stories have been that Rock wants to return to WWE for a part time run. A lot of this rumor coincides with Rock’s daughter wanting to be a WWE wrestler.

With Wrestlemania, they need him. The roster is not filled with dream match-ups which is they keep giving us Brock/Roman almost every year. Rock adds a big new name to have a dream match with. Batista should come back as well.

  2. He’s not wrong, though. People gush about the Attitude Era without really remembering what made it so great; that it was a time when new stars were created and flourished.

I agree WWE has great wrestlers . WWE needs to let them be the main eventers. Not a part time that comes in once a year and takes the spotlight away from the ones that are there day in and day out. Let them wrestle but not main event that’s wrong to take it away from the ones that deserve it .

  4. Did wrestlemania x8 “need” Hogan vs Rock…?
No, but it was damn cool anyway. WWE do not need Rock, but it definitely amps up the magnitude of the card (at least on paper) and i’d like to see The Rock vs Roman Reigns… sue me!

    • I think it’s different when you use the legends/part timers in feuds with upcoming talent, vs shortsightedly pitting them against one another.
Rock vs Reigns “passes the torch” in theory at least (yea yea Cena already passed it to him, I know lol)
