Ring of Honor/New Japan wrestler Rocky Romero was spotted Tuesday at the WWE Performance Center ... but Pro Wrestling Sheet has learned it wasn't to sign any deal -- he was strictly there to drop knowledge.

Sources close to the situation tell us Romero was invited by WWE officials to help trainees at the facility for the next few days. Adam Pearce posted a pic of Rocky at the PC and people instantly began to question what he was doing there.

We're told Rocky will be talking about his experiences in wrestling, as well as training wrestlers in the ring, to give people some outside perspective on the business.

No word on whether the two sides will be working together more in the future ... but with Billy Gunn recently being released from the company, it looks like they've got an open spot to fill.
