The XFL is on track to be bought out by an investment group that includes Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and now the WWE legend has commented on the big news.

In case you missed it, Johnson and Dany Garcia joined forces with Gerry Cardinale’s private equity investment firm RedBird Capital to buy the XFL for $15 million. The announcement was made hours before the XFL was set to go up for auction.

According to Sportico, who first reported the news, The Rock and RedBird split the 15 mil evenly.

"With my trail blazing partner [Dany Garcia] & Red Bird Capital, we have acquired the XFL," Johnson tweeted Monday morning. "With gratitude & passion I’ve built a career with my own two hands and will apply these callouses to our [XFL] brand. Excited to create something special for the fans!"

As you'll recall, Vince McMahon's reboot of the league was shuttered in the wake of COVID. Prior to that, however, it had been doing better than anticipated.

The Associated Press reports the transaction is subject to bankruptcy court approval at a hearing this Friday. If closing conditions are satisfied, the deal is expected to close on or shortly after August 21.
