Rob Van Dam opened up about his struggle with alcohol abuse in a new interview to promote his upcoming documentary "Headstrong."

Van Dam was a guest on The Marvelists podcast this week to chat about comics, but things got serious when he began to plug his doc which was partly filmed during a difficult time in his life.

"Anyone who saw me in 2016 might have seen me intoxicated," the former WWE champ told the hosts. "I was trying to get up and out of a hole that I had fallen into from getting hit with a trifecta of life crapping on me: the divorce, then my dog died, then my dad died. Boom! Boom! Boom! I decided that I was gonna drink for a while."

Rob says his alcohol abuse unfortunately lasted for a few years.

"During that time I'm so glad that I didn't hurt anybody. But at the time I remember driving drunk from the bars every night," he continued. "If I drive off the road, screw it, I deserve a scandal after what I've been through."

The wrestler credits his girlfriend Katie Forbes as one of the things that helped pull him out of the bad place he was in, and says this battle will be shown in the documentary.

"Headstrong" is now available for pre-order before it's February 19 release.
