WWE Referee Explains Decision to Stop Title Match at Hell In a Cell

The WWE Universe was left in confusion after Sunday’s Hell in a Cell match for the Universal title ended due to referee stoppage … and now the ref has explained his decision.

Rod Zapata attempted to provide some clarity to his ruling on Wednesday by issuing a written statement to WWE’s new show “The Bump.”

“With Bray motionless, and Seth clearly doing whatever it was going to take to win that match … I had to think of the competitor’s safety and at that moment, I did what I thought was best,” Zapata’s statement read.

In case you missed it, the finish to Sunday’s Hell in a Cell match between Seth Rollins and “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt was met with an extremely negative reaction from fans in attendance. A large portion of the audience could be hear chanting things like “refund,” “bullsh*t,” and “AEW.”

Check out the latest edition of The Bump below. This segment begins around 14 minutes in.
