New Day Say They Won’t Associate With Hulk Hogan Until “Genuine Effort to Change” is Made

new day hulk hogan statement apology locker room roster indifferent associate genuine effort to change

Kofi Kingston released a lengthy statement on behalf of New Day in regards to how they feel about Hulk Hogan‘s apology to the WWE locker room — stating they won’t associate with the wrestling legend until “genuine effort to change” is made.

As we previously reported, Hogan met with the wrestlers backstage at Extreme Rules. According to James Ellsworth, Hogan apologized for the racial slurs he was caught saying. Hulk also reminded those in attendance that he didn’t know he was being recorded at the time.

Mark Henry has said there’s currently a divide amongst black wrestlers over the backstage apology … describing it as a 50-50 split.

Now, the most prominent black tag team in wrestling have responded by writing a statement in which they admit to being indifferent towards Hogan’s apology.

Their statement can be read in full below:

To the WWE Universe and whoever else it may concern:

This will be the only statement we will make regarding Hogan’s reinstatement into WWE’s Hall of Fame. We do not wish to spend the energy debating the point, because between our kids, our external ventures, and this job, our energy is spread thin enough already, lol.

We are only writing this simply to provide an answer to the many who have bombarded us with questions on where we stand on the issue.

We preface this statement by emphasizing that this is our own opinion and may not necessarily reflect the opinion of anyone else affected.

How do we feel? Indifferent. We are not happy, or sad, angry or resentful. Who WWE puts into the HOF is totally and completely up to the company and from a career standpoint, there is no argument on whether or not Hogan should have his place. We have no problem with his re-induction in the slightest degree. It is impossible to even begin to mention the history and evolution of the business without mentioning his name and accolades.

On a personal level, when someone makes racist and hateful comments about any race or group of people, especially to the degree that Hogan made about our people, we find it difficult to simply forget, regardless of how long ago it was, or the situation in which those comments were made. But we also do not respond with more feelings of hate. Instead, we just do not associate with the people who convey or have conveyed this negative and hurtful mindset. This instance will be no different. Perhaps if we see him make a genuine effort to change, then maybe our opinion will change with him. Time will tell.

Through the course of our lives, people have used racist comments towards us and it doesn’t feel good. But if we stopped moving forward every time we were met with prejudicial hatred, then we would have never achieved our current accomplishments.

We know we are worth it, we know our kids are worth it, and most importantly, we know that
people that look like us are worth it and always have been. There isn’t a person on this planet who will be ever be able to say anything to make us think otherwise because we believe in ourselves as a people and don’t need anyones approval on that, regardless of who they are.

Having said that, his reinstatement won’t change anything for us. It will have zero effect on our ability to perform or the level of effort we will put into doing what we love to do, and that is: To deliver an entertaining product each week for our fan base.

Sincerely,

– The New Day

  1. Before i start i will say that any type of racism is not good. Without Hogan the New Day would not even exist.. Hogan i believe is getting way to harsh of treatment for what was said.. a lot of people say things when there mental state is not right. Doesnt make it ok but circumstances happened and Hogan’s appologized more than enough. I have heard people say worse and get way less punishment… New day is a great team and I hope they are not using this as a publicity stunt to further there spotlight.. if the New day ever did something wrong I am sure they would want forgiveness… They should be better and give Hulk a chance.

mel gibson said whatever he said about 10 years ago and i am sure his mental state was not right. some people say ok enough is enough, time to forgive. i personally don’t feel any more likely to forgive him than i did 10 years ago. for the rest of my life i will feel a certain way about mel gibson and that will not change. if someone took offense to what hogan said and feels a certain way about him they don’t have to change either.

    • Hulks done this more than once. Guess what? Lots of people want to protect their image, and also let their true nature shine without cameras or tapes present. This is exactly that. Doesn’t change what he did, and he’s lost respect to some as a man. Even though he’s a big star, you have to look at it from an unbiased viewpoint. But as it is with celebrity, stars get excused because of fandom. And I doubt all the WWE roster forgives him or respects him today, evidently, despite his history in the business.

  2. COME ON IDIOT NEW DAY RACISM WILL NEVER DIE SO TIRED OF HEARING RACISM WELL IF ALL OF U WOULD STOP SCREAMING DISCRIMINATION ALL THE TIME MAYBE IT WOULD STOP..WHITES AND HISPANICS ARE THE MINORITY THESE DAYS LET THEM SAY RACISM PEOPLE WILL START LAUGHING.GET OVER IT PERIOD

      Fuck you aryan porchcracker 🖕

    • The Bible says do not False Bear Witness against your Brother or Sister in Christ, we are all GOD’s Children, Please realize that not all black people are ok with being called the n-word. It’s not ok. It’s a terrible derogatory word, just because some black people use it with their friends, does not mean we all go around calling everyone that. They might tolerated it* NOTICE THAT WORD (tolerate)it does not mean they approve of the N-Word, More and more Blacks have come out against the word and the usage of it even among themselves and the change while slow, is imminent.

I Think, you should Repent and Apologize TO GOD for false bear witness..

Black Rappers, Public Figures and athletes do not speak for most blacks, it’s 50/50 when it comes to the N-Word, Blacks tolerate it, even then they must be careful in how they use it…

You’ll receive your due judgement on the decreed time, misled human

      • ABSOLUTELY..
WHY R U HATING ON ME WHEN IT’S UR OWN KIND THAT CAUSES ALL THIS NONSENSE…THERE THE ONE THAT SAYS NIGGA TO EACH OTHER ALL THE TIME..why hate on me

  4. 2 things:

Hogan got caught therefore he apologized be because he knew it was going to destroy his legacy.

Second, I wish someone could ask Hogan this: Did he remember what he said on that tape and STILL went on to sue Gawker? Because if he did, then he didn’t care about his legacy, he just wanted a payday and wanted it no mattet what.

    • Hogan knew what he said that didn’t stop him from suing Gawker, he was almost broke working for Rent-A-Center, he made the Sex-Tape to get easy money. He demanded 100 Million, but only got like 40 million as Gawker want out of business. Hogan really wanted that 100 million though

  5. Let’s be real. They won’t associate with Hulk Hogan…until Vince McMahon maies them associate with Hogan.

    • Agreed, That’s why I support IMPACT, All Wrestlers are treated as equals and they treat each other as family. They Truly love and respect each other compare to WWE where they will stab you in the back just to get ahead and move up on that ladder. Vince doesn’t care how they feel

White people created racism and slavery and segregation and racial profiling and discrimination against people of color and bigoted politics and they continue to use white supremacy as a tool to hurt.

Hulk Hogan is a deep down inside racist 💯%

  8. Why does the E even need Hogan at this point? Has not done anything in the ring worth a piece of a damn since maybe his Hollywood turn. And all that was. Blah. What’s he going to do welcome ppl to summerslam like a Wal-Mart greeter? Or just Vince giveing him a payday for making him filthy rotten wealthy?

  9. Hogan is known as a BS Person and will never change he has a negative image in wrestling FOR A REASON . Time will tell if his apology is genuine, IF HOGAN is sincere he’ll offer a gesture of repentance towards every wrestler he screwed over, starting with Bret Hart, Hogan REFUSED to put Hart over time and time again held him down, even at Wrestlemania 9. Tries to act surprised when Hart has no good things to say about him. Acts Surprised when Hart has a negative opinion on Him..

Hogan should go on a Apology Tour. He did some really awful things as a Wrestler. I will always think of Vince as the bigger person, knowing how many times Hogan tried to PUT HIM out of Business…

  10. Hogan even TRIED to send McMahon to Prison when that wasn’t enough almost put his company out of business. EVERY TIME when given a chance Hogan has stabbed Vince in the back. it always surprises me how the WWE can forgive him when he really should be blacklisted as The Ultimate Betrayer.

IF THE WWE Had Competition today like WCW he’ll do the SAME THING again for a paycheck.
