Matt Riddle has been saying he wants to retire Brock Lesnar for years, but the NXT wrestler isn’t sure if “The Beast” has received his message.
During an interview conducted this week at the WWE Performance Center, Riddle talked to us about his outspoken nature and brief backstage interaction with Goldberg.
“I don’t think there’s really an issue,” The Original Bro explained in regards to Goldberg. “I think he knows where he stands. I know where I stand. I wasn’t gonna fight him, unless he did something crazy (which he didn’t). I think he understands the situation. I don’t think he agreed with me, but that’s just people. We’re not gonna see eye-to-eye on everything.”
As we previously reported, the two wrestlers had a tense backstage standoff at SummerSlam.
Riddle admits he wouldn’t mind wrestling a match now against Goldberg, due to all the hype around them, but that wasn’t his initial intention when calling him out. “I was just expressing my feelings and maybe I did it inappropriately,” he added. “Didn’t mean any harm. Sorry … whatever. Ya know.”
The conversation was then shifted to Brock Lesnar and Riddle was asked if he thought a backstage interaction with the new WWE Champion would be as awkward as the one he had with Goldberg.
“Maybe, I don’t know. I don’t even think Brock knows who I am,” he replied. “He’s never acknowledged me. I’ve been to multiple shows he’s been at and I’ve never seen him in person.”
As for Riddle’s outspoken nature … the NXT wrestler implied he may have been told to tone it down a little. However, that won’t stop him from being himself.
