Kushida is the new NXT Cruiserweight Champion following his shock victory over Santos Escobar.

It all went down on the latest edition of NXT on USA Network -- the first since the show moved to Tuesday's.

The cocky Escobar put his title on the line against Kushida, who he vastly underestimated. Kushida was able to get the win and leave the arena with the NXT Cruiserweight Championship.

Following his victory, Kushida was confronted backstage by former Cruiserweight champ Jordan Devlin, who teased a potential match between the two men at some point in the future.

Escobar was declared the undisputed NXT Cruiserweight Champion on night 2 of NXT TakeOver: Stand and Deliver after he defeated Jordan Devlin in a ladder match.

Kushida is former NJPW star who debuted on NXT in May of 2019.

In a video on the WWE Performance Center channel, Kushida is shown talking about how excited he was to debut in NXT while footage is shown of him going over his entrance with Triple H.

After defeating Kassius Ohno in his debut, Kushida told an interviewer he felt “reborn” and happy.
