Jushin “Thunder” Liger’s legendary career came to an end on Sunday with the 55-year-old wrestler going out on his back during night two of Wrestle Kingdom 14.
Liger teamed with Naoki Sano in the opening match against newly crowned IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi and his partner Ryu Lee.
The match ended with Takahashi hitting his Time Bomb finisher to score the clean pinfall victory.
After the match was over, the announcers watched in stunned silence realizing Liger’s career was officially coming to an end after decades of in-ring competition. Ryu Lee eventually helped Liger to his feet before bowing to the wrestling legend as a sign of respect.
Liger got on the microphone and thanked the live audience in Japanese before exiting the ring.
