Johnny Gargano will attempt to regain the NXT Championship on Saturday, and in a special promoting the event viewers were given a glimpse of his first WWE tryout.
Gargano and Adam Cole are the focus of a new mini-doc released by WWE this week called “Prime Target” promoting TakeOver: Toronto.
Footage of Johnny’s 2015 tryout at the WWE Performance Center is shown at one point, as well as his promo from that session in which Gargano talked about carrying a photo of his young self with him at all times as a reminder of why he wrestles.
“Twenty-four hours after this video was filmed, I was told there wasn’t a spot for me. I went home and I thought, ‘Hmmm. I’m not good enough, huh? Ok. Well, I’m gonna prove them wrong … and someday I’m gonna take that place over,'” Gargano explains in the video.
Adam Cole is also shown cutting bad-ass promos after a string of live event victories.
Plus, Seth Rollins and Finn Balor have separate conversations with Johnny Gargano.
Cole and Gargano are set to face-off this weekend in a two-out-of-three falls match. The first fall will be a classic wrestling match and the second will be contested under street fight rules. If a third fall is needed to break a tie, NXT GM William Regal will announce the stipulation.
