John Cena clowned Jimmy Fallon during his recent “Tonight Show” appearance by showing up in full Peacemaker garb.
As we’ve previously reported, Cena will portray Peacemaker in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie.
On his “Tonight Show” appearance, the former WWE Champion described the character as “a douchey, bro-ey Captain America!”
Cena will also portray Peacemaker in TV series for HBO Max.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cena is teaming with James Gunn for an action-adventure comedy series spinoff exploring the origins of the character.
The show was given a straight to series order from HBO Max. Warner execs are apparently high on the character due to Cena’s scene-stealing ways in early cuts of the film. Gunn will be writing all eight episodes of the show, as well as directing some of the episodes.
Cena commented on the news via Twitter, writing: “Working alongside [James Gunn] on #SuicideSquad was an absolute masterclass in how to best bring beloved characters to life in a new and fun way. I cannot wait for the #DCUniverse to experience more of absurdity that is the Peacemaker in this new project on [HBO MAX]!!!”
THR reports the goal is to have the show go into production in early 2021 before Gunn begins work on Marvel Studio’s third Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
“The Suicide Squad” is set to be released in theaters on August 6, 2021 and digitally on HBO Max for one month starting on that same date.
