Io Shirai won a ladder match on NXT tonight to gain the upper hand for her team at TakeOver: WarGames – but the night didn't end well for their captain.

Mia Yim and Shirai took part in the match to determine which team would get the entry advantage during the upcoming Women's WarGames match. This will allow the winner's team to send a member into battle first, giving them a 2-on-1 advantage for three minutes.

Yim represented Rhea Ripley's team of herself, Candice LeRae and Tegan Nox. Shirai represented Shayna Baszler's team of herself, Bianca Belair and a member that has yet to be announced.

Towards the end of the match, Shirai landed a springboard dropkick with a ladder to Yim's face busting her open. It looked as though this might end the match, but Yim managed to come back in and continue wrestling. Just as it seemed like Mia had things wrapped up on top of the ladder, NXT UK Women's Champion Kay Lee Ray appeared out of nowhere and pushed it over.

Yim flew out of the ring and landed through a propped up ladder, allowing Shirai to claim the briefcase and the advantage for her team.

Captain Baszler came out at the end of the match to seemingly announce that Ray was joining her team ... but instead Bayley showed up on NXT and attacked her from behind.

NXT TakeOver: WarGames will take place at the Allstate Arena in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois on Nov. 23, airing live on WWE Network, at 7 p.m. EST.
