Chris Hemsworth is working with Todd Phillips on a biopic about Hulk Hogan’s life for Netflix — and Hulk says the “Thor” actor believes it could help him win an Academy Award.
On the latest episode of “The Steve Austin Show,” Hogan and Stone Cold shoot the breeze about an array of topics. This includes the reported biopic for Netflix.
Hulkster confirms the movie is in the works, but it hasn’t been greenlit yet.
The WWE legend says he and Eric Bischoff started working on the project 7 years ago with writers from Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment. The script was eventually offered to WWE Studios who passed.
The picture was then stuck in development until a few years ago when Eric revived the project with director Todd Phillips, who made “The Hangover” and Warner Bros’ upcoming Joker movie.
Phillips flew to Florida for a meeting about the project and apparently said Chris Hemsworth thinks he can win an Oscar playing Hogan in a biopic. Hulk told Austin he was hesitant to believe this was possible until viewing the trailer for “Joker” with Joaquin Phoenix.
“When I saw it, I went, ‘oh my god, that’s how big of a movie they want to make,” Hogan explained.
Hulk says he then signed a deal with Phillips and Netflix approved the budget shortly after.
The script is currently being re-written by Scott Silver — who wrote “8 Mile” and “The Fighter” — and now they’re hoping things go in the right direction in order for the project to start filming.
FYI — Hogan claims big actors are interested in playing his famous opponents, but didn’t reveal who.
