Educated Guessing is back! This time Wrestling Sheet reporter James McKenna attempts to pick the winners for Sunday’s Elimination Chamber. Read on to see if you agree with his choices.
HOOOOOOOO! *James wildly swings around a 2×4*
After running the table on the Royal Rumble, I am back for another edition of Educated Guessing.
Now up to bat, the supposedly “new” Elimination Chamber. I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what is so new about it and the only thing I can think of is “we rebuilt it so it now works in most arenas” – maybe a new design? Who knows? Regardless – on with the show….
Mojo Rawley vs. Curt Hawkins
MOJO BAY BAY! Ok, I know I am absolutely the worst type of mark, but I oddly love Mojo Rawley. WWE’s equivalent to Rob Gronkowski (and probably how they get Rob to show up post-NFL) has been getting a little push recently and feeding him Hawkins seems to be their way of giving Mojo a PPV win.
I would be impressed if they handed a win to Hawkins finally, but I don’t think Sunday is the night.
Educated Guess: Mojo Rawley by pin
2-on-1 Handicap Match
Apollo Crews & Kalisto vs. Dolph Ziggler
I am suuuuuper confused by this match. I don’t understand what a handicap match does for any of these people, at all. Why on earth are we stacking the odds against the heel? How am I supposed to feel decent about the “good guys” winning if they double up on the bad guy? I’m honestly a bit torn on this one, but think this has to tip the scale over towards Ziggler a bit more. If they are trying to establish him as a heel to be reckoned with, knocking out two up and comers — regardless that it’s not doing any favors for all three — would be a step in the right direction.
Educated Guess: Dolph Ziggler by pin over Kalisto
Becky Lynch vs. Mickie James
I always love a PPV grudge match I can actually get behind. Becky vs Mickie is my front runner for match of the night, and for good reason. James proved back at TakeOver: Toronto that she still had the in ring prowess she possessed during her last run with the company. Plus, Becky has been DESPERATE for a heel that could go toe-to-toe with her. This is going to be a great back and forth match, and with WWE probably looking to give Becky a Mania spot against Alexa, I am anticipating a Becky victory.
Educated Guess: Becky Lynch by submission
Smackdown Tag Team Championship: Tag Team Turmoil Match
American Alpha (C) vs. Breezeango vs. Vaudevillians vs. The Usos vs. The Ascension vs. Rhyno & Heath Slater
Is there anything more boring in the company right now than the Smackdown tag team division? It is a complete shame too, because American Alpha vs The Wyatt Family would have been a FIRE Mania match. The stakes here are honestly minimal and I’d be shocked if they gave it to any other team besides the two guys currently carrying the division.
Educated Guess: American Alpha by pin over The Usos
Nikki Bella vs Natalya
Out of all the matches on this card, I am the least mentally invested in this match. It’s true – I have never really been too interested in Natalya’s character. Plus, every time they try hitting the gas on an idea for her, it never pans out correctly. Rumors of a tag match with Nikki/Cena at Mania make me think that she’ll be walking out of Elimination Chamber with a win.
Educated Guess: Nikki Bella by pin
Luke Harper vs Randy Orton
Let’s get this out of the way first – I LOVE THIS MATCH. Luke Harper needs to start having more big ticket singles matches STAT and I’m psyched that Orton vs Harper is a legitimate feud on a big show. Now that we’ve said that, this is obviously a feeder match for Mania. The last time the person who won the Royal Rumble lost in a singles match at the PPV afterward was in 2006 at No Way Out … Rey Mysterio lost the #1 contendership he earned at the Rumble to … you guessed it …
I love Luke, but time and history isn’t on his side.
Educated Guess: Randy Orton by pinfall
Smackdown Women’s Championship
Alexa Bliss (C) vs Naomi
Here is the Pro Wrestling Sheet physical challenge for the week: drive around in your car, turn on Naomi’s theme “Amazing” and try not to dance.
You couldn’t could you? You HAD to dance. So is the mystic energy of “AMAZING.”
That being said, we’ve already gone over what I am assuming is the Mania program we’re walking into. I love the idea of Naomi being champion heading into The Show of Shows, but the appeal of a final Bliss/Becky match is too big to ignore.
Educated Guess: Alexa Bliss by pin
WWE Championship: Elimination Chamber Match
John Cena (C) vs AJ Styles vs Dean Ambrose vs The Mis vs Baron Corbin vs Bray Wyatt
Sadly, because of Royal Rumble, I think most of us have expected this ending for a minute now. And its a shame, because who I am picking for this deserved a better first coronation.
The good news is that this match could set up three potential programs out of the night: the heavily rumored John Cena vs The Miz, Dean Ambrose vs Baron Corbin for a complete IC title program and the aforementioned pick … yeah, we all know where this is going …
I wish it was something more surprising/more prestigious than a cheap setup for Mania. As I pointed out in the Rumble predictions post, this was my guess right out the gate and I think they don’t back down from some internet outrage.
Educated Guess: Bray Wyatt – NEW CHAMP! NEW CHAMP!
