Edge seems to confirm he had an offer on the table from AEW prior to re-signing with WWE on the new episode of “24” chronicling his return to the ring.
As we previously reported, AEW made an offer to Adam “Edge” Copeland to work behind the scenes in the company as well as wrestle a handful of matches.
Edge explains in the documentary that after making an appearance at SummerSlam “another company in the industry” reached out with interest asking if he could potentially wrestle again.
“At this point, I didn’t know if I could,” he added. “So before I did anything, I decided I needed to go find out.” He visited multiple doctors afterward and all said he was safe to wrestle again.
“So, some discussions were had. The one thing that I told them through all of this is, ‘When you give me your offer, I need to go talk to Vince [McMahon]. He’s done right by me my entire career,'” Edge continued. “He gave me my chance. He gave me my shot. Trusted me to be able to pull off a lot of things. To be able to help pull the cart. To be a pillar for his shows. To be counted on as one of his generals. That goes a long way with me.”
Copeland then called Vince and said he needed to meet in person that weekend face-to-face.
Edge told Vince everything that was going on with the offer during their meeting and how he had been cleared by multiple doctors.
“It wasn’t trying to get a bidding war thing going. It wasn’t any of that,” Edge says in the documentary. “WWE didn’t even know whether this was possible. I didn’t fully know it was possible. And [Vince] said, ‘Well, this needs to happen here.'”
The 46-year-old eventually re-signed with WWE and made his return at the Royal Rumble.
“Edge: The Second Mountain” is AVAILABLE NOW on WWE Network and covers his entire journey back to the ring. This includes the fall on a bike that got the wheels turning in his head again, training with Beth Phoenix/Dash Wilder, why he kept it all a secret and so much more.
