Christian Cage has revealed that his former WWE colleague Jon Moxley was the catalyst for his decision to jump ship and join AEW.

Captain Charisma spilled the beans in a recent interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated.

“Moxley is a good friend of mine, and he was saying, ‘You’re a free agent; you should at least have a conversation with Tony Khan,’ ” Christian told Barrasso. “So I did.”

Before he revealed Moxley's role in his negotiations with AEW boss Tony Khan, Christian explained what went down with WWE.

“There were some cordial talks, and I can’t really elaborate beyond that,” he said. “I’m not sure where their heads were at creatively.”

As you may recall, Christian returned to the ring after a 7 year absence during WWE’s Royal Rumble match back in January.

Christian did have a brief “unsanctioned” match with Randy Orton a few months ago, but he was squashed in a few seconds so we’re not counting that.

The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion eventually decided to join All Elite Wrestling and debuted during the company’s Revolution pay-per-view.

“Listening to the things Tony thought I could bring to the table and how he thought I could help, providing me the right platform at this stage in my career, it all made sense,” he told Sports Illustrated. “In less than a week, it was a done deal.”
