Chris Melendez is done with TNA as of Wednesday morning … but the wrestler tells Pro Wrestling Sheet that he wasn’t fired, his contract expired after he requested a release months ago.
The US Army veteran tweeted confirmation of his parting earlier today saying, “I’ve decided to move onto the next chapter of my life. I learned a lot in and out of the ring. Thank you for the opportunity!”
Though his departure may seem sudden, it was actually a long time coming.
Melendez tells us, “I asked for my release well over 2 months ago. They wanted to wait and let my contract expire, which is effective today.”
Chris debuted in TNA in August of 2014. Perhaps his most memorable bout was the September 23, 2015 lumberjack match against Eric Young in which his prosthetic leg was at stake.
As for his future? The wrestler is now taking independent bookings.
