Chris Jericho says he only went to New Japan to wrestle a handful of people, his upcoming Wrestle Kingdom 14 opponent being one of them, but now he's got two more in mind.

Speaking with Sport Illustrated's Justin Barrasso, Jericho explains he joined NJPW to work with Kenny Omega, Tetsuya Naito, Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi.

Now that he'll have done that after night two of Wrestle Kingdom 14 – taking place tomorrow – the AEW Champion speculated on his future with New Japan.

“Will I come back after the Tana match? I don’t know," he added. "I’d love to work with [Will] Ospreay and [Kota] Ibushi. It might be mission accomplished after this, it might not, but it’s really cool to go back as a main event heavyweight after being a junior heavyweight."

Jericho also revealed that he wanted to work with Tanahashi last year, but NJPW booker Gedo had other plans. “When I attacked Naito in Korakuen Hall, I wanted to attack Tanahashi, but Gedo wanted it to be Naito, which turned out to be great," he told SI. "This is a main-event, money match, and there is a lot of buzz about it."

Night one of Wrestle Kingdom (starting tonight) is set to feature matches like:

  • Los Ingobernables de Japon vs. Suzuki-gun
  • Lance Archer vs. Jon Moxley in a Texas Deathmatch for the IWGP United States title
  • Will Ospreay vs. Hiromu Takahashi for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight title
  • Jay White vs. Tetsuya Naito for the IWGP Intercontinental title
  • Kazuchika Okada vs. Kota Ibushi for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

The winners of White/Naito and Okada/Ibushi will defend their respective titles against the other champion on night two in a Double Gold Dash match.

The event can be seen on NJPW's streaming service or purchased through FITE.
