Charlotte Flair has revealed her true feelings regarding the recent on-screen WWE storyline involving herself, her father, and Lacey Evans.
In a recent interview with Sam Roberts on his NotSam Wrestling podcast, “The Queen” insinuated that she wasn’t particularly satisfied with the direction the angle was taking.
“I definitely thought him and Lacey worked well together,” Charlotte said, referring to her father Ric Flair’s on-screen chemistry with Lacey Evans. “I understood and got it. My struggle was, I’m the daughter of the dirtiest player in the game, why can’t I be the dirtiest player in the game? How or why would I fall for his antics if I’ve already been on camera with him and he was my manager? That was tremendous and I grew as a performer and it took me to the next level, but why am I not the dirtiest player in the game? I was basically throwing a fit,” she continued. “I didn’t understand. I can’t fall for these things. It didn’t make sense.”
In case you missed it, the storyline in question involved Charlotte being repeatedly screwed over by her own father and his accomplice, Lacey Evans. The extent of Ric and Lacey’s relationship was never explicitly stated, but WWE seemed to be hinting that there was romantic element to it. Although maybe the company’s track record is just forcing us to read too much into it.
Sadly (?), future plans for the storyline were cancelled as Lacey is pregnant in real life.
Obviously, there is going to be a different direction now,” Charlotte told Sam Roberts. “My step-mom [Lacey Evans] can’t wrestle me. It took a different twist and I’ll be interested to see where it goes after Monday. I hope nowhere near my dad. I know he feels the same way. It’s Mania season. I hope I’m at WrestleMania.”
