WWE official Adam Pearce is pleading with Universal Champion Roman Reigns to reconsider their upcoming match at the Royal Rumble event.
Pearce shared a video on social media in which he attempted to persuade Roman that the match would tarnish his legacy.
“So Roman, this isn’t the way I was hoping to appeal to you. But considering I can’t get anybody to return my calls this week and tomorrow’s Friday, this is kind of a last-ditch (attempt),” Pearce said. “You know that I think all this is ridiculous. What happened last week, everything that was said, putting me in a match against you at the Rumble. I’m not sure how all this came to be, but here we are. And here we are once again with me asking you, please end this game.”
As you might recall, Pearce “earned” a shot at Roman’s Universal Championship on last week’s SmackDown.
The show closed with the gauntlet match to determine the number one contender. Pearce — who was participating in his first match in six ears — was the last man to enter. His opponent was Shinsuke Nakamura, who had already beaten Rey Mysterio, Baron Corbin, and Daniel Bryan.
Before Pearce made his way to the ring, Roman, Heyman, and Jey Uso appeared. Jey attacked Nakamura, and Roman joined in. Jey then super kicked Pearce and pulled him on top of Nakamura’s unconscious body so the referee could count the pin. Pearce was declared the winner of the match.
As the show went off the air, announcer Corey Graves reminded viewers that Adam Pearce was officially the number one contender to the Universal Title.
Adam Pearce was a stalwart of the independent scene between 1996 – 2014, before joining WWE as a coach/producer.
