Before The Young Bucks signed exclusive contracts with Ring of Honor, the popular tag team held preliminary discussions with every major wrestling company — Pro Wrestling Sheet has learned.
Sources close to the Young Bucks tells us Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson discussed working for Lucha Underground, NXT and even TNA with various officials from each company throughout the year … but there was never a bidding war. Ring of Honor was always the most serious about locking them down.
We’re told TNA had contacted the brothers a few times throughout the year to work something out — the most recent time being before Bound For Glory — but nothing official ever came to fruition.
Our sources tell us talks between the Bucks and NXT never got serious, however there were plenty of people in positions of authority pushing for top brass to bring them in — things just never worked out.
As far as ROH is concerned, we’re told the company basically matched what the Young Bucks were making on all their U.S. indie dates combined … after New Japan Pro Wrestling officials helped push to make the signing happen.
According to sources, NJPW officials wanted the Bucks to work a lighter schedule — since they’ve been pushing themselves so hard by working an insane amount of dates — and urged ROH to sign them to an exclusive deal.
All in all, we’re told it was a team effort … and the brothers are extremely happy.
