Following his long-awaited return from injury, Sami Zayn has opened up about the promo he cut on the WWE Universe during last week's Raw.

In a recent interview with TVA Sports, Sami revealed that he wrote the promo himself:

"I had a model of the promo that I wanted. I sat down with an agent and dictated my promo. He wrote it and passed the validation process. I don't know if I'm one of the people who has that privilege. But that night, I had a chance to say what I personally wrote. Sometimes you say things you don't necessarily want to say in a promo. And sometimes it's more like what you had in mind."

The former NXT champ then said he wants to avoid the typical heel clichés with his new promos.

"I don't want to say that the [Montreal] Canadians didn't make the playoffs to make them boo me. That's not the way I want to interact with the crowd. I want to find a different, new, more creative and intelligent way than we usually see," he explained.

Zayn also says former WWE writer R.D. Evans suggested the gimmick change to him. As we previously reported, Evans announced his departure last week following an incident at the Hall of Fame.
