NXT TakeOver: Orlando — Predictions and Analysis From Editor-in-Chief Ryan Satin

takeover predictions nxt analysis wwe

WrestleMania 33 is a few days away, but NXT will attempt to steal the event’s thunder at TakeOver: Orlando one day before — so we’ve got a fresh set of predictions for you.

The Sheet’s usual prediction series is written by James McKenna, but he’s busy putting together a big batch of Educated Guesses for Sunday. Therefore, you guys are stuck with me for now.

NXT’s WrestleMania weekend TakeOver show doesn’t have the same hype behind it as last year’s — which is understandable given the star power of the 2016 event — but the yellow brand is known to put on high-caliber shows and this one is sure to live up to that.

With that being said, let’s get to the matches …

Tye Dillinger, No Way Jose, Roderick Strong and Ruby Riot vs. SAnitY

Ruby Riot makes her NXT in-ring debut by joining up with Team “We’re Not Quite Sure What To Do With These Guys Right Now” and I’m expecting an impressive showing from her in the match.

With that being said, most of the guys backing Tye are currently lacking direction in NXT and a win over the company’s top heel stable doesn’t seem plausible right now for any of them — despite Roddy and No Way Jose needing a big win to get back on track.

PREDICTION:  SAnitY by pinfall

Aleister Black vs. AndradeCienAlmas

While his first match in NXT might not be as anticipated as Shinsuke Nakamura‘s debut last year against Sami Zayn, the man formerly known as Tommy End is sure to kickoff his tenure in the company with a bang — especially while facing off with a talented wrestler like Andrade.

The satanic vignettes for Black over the past few weeks have been some the best they’ve done on NXT in awhile and Aleister just needs an impressive showing to get fully over with the audience.

Also, let’s be honest, Almas doesn’t need the win here.

PREDICTION: Aleister Black by pinfall

NXT Tag Team Championship: Triple Threat Elimination Match

The Authors of Pain (c) vs. #DIY vs. The Revival

Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson have done all they can do in NXT and a win here just wouldn’t make sense. With the Raw after Mania right around the corner and WWE being in need of strong tag teams on the main roster, a Revival call up seems inevitable after this event.

And while #DIY are Full Sail favorites … Akem and Rezar have been on a roll that doesn’t seem to be ending soon, which makes betting on the former tag champs difficult.

Especially with Heavy Machinery waiting in the wings following their recent push.

PREDICTION: The Authors of Pain retain NXT Tag Team Championships by pinfall

NXT Women’s Championship Match

Asuka (c) vs. Ember Moon

This event marks the one-year anniversary of the Empress of Tomorrow winning the NXT Women’s Championship and I expect her long reign to end here. I know she’s close to beating Golberg‘s streak, but it seems doubtful that WWE allows the record to be broken due to his recent run.

More so, Ember has been primed to knock Asuka off of her throne and one would assume this is the ideal time to make it happen with the champ’s cocky attitude going into the match.

This could also setup a series of matches afterward that would keep them busy until the draft … and who doesn’t wanna see Asuka go full heel mode before her call up?

PREDICTION: Ember Moon wins the NXT Women’s Championship by pinfall

NXT Championship Match

Bobby Roode (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

“The King of Strong Style” has had an amazing run in NXT since taking the reigns from Finn Balor last year, but the time has come for Shinsuke to ascend to the main roster and become a Superstar.

This is why I’m predicting Nakamura goes out by putting Roode over in glorious fashion.

Bobby can then go on to feud with guys like Kassius Ohno, Roderick Strong and a returning Hideo Itami … while Nakamura gets to mix it up with guys like Kevin Owens or AJ Styles in front of a massive TV audience. Wins all around. YeaOHH!!

PREDICTION: Bobby Roode retains NXT Championship by pinfall

Only 5 matches? That’s interesting. Looking forward to the tag title match and main event. AOP will win the tag title and Roode retains.
