WWE Money in the Bank ’17 Predictions And Analysis: ‘Educated Guessing’ With James McKenna

money in the bank predictions educated guessing james mckenna

After a brief hiatus, I, James McKenna — your NEW Senior News Producer at The Sheet — have returned with a fresh batch of ‘Educated’ guesses! This session, we adventure into the realm where ladders are king … Money In The Bank.

There have been many incredible MITB winners in the past, as well as Damien Sandow, but can this weekend’s event create two more? Let’s dive in.

KICKOFF MATCH

The Hype Bros vs The Colons

Return of the Zack! Long Island’s favorite son has returned to the ring after his injury and it comes just in the nick of time for a slowly fading Mojo Rawley. The ARMBAR was supposed to be Mojo’s big coming out party and instead he has since idled out. Mojo either needs a heel turn, or for Ryder to turn heel on him, and he needs it done soon. That said, I doubt it will happen here. The Colons will instead do what they do best and put on a good match with no adherence to a gimmick, then lose.

Educated Guess: The Hype Bros

Smackdown Tag Team Championships

The Usos (C) vs The New Day

Who would have thought mid-way through 2017 we would be wishing Breezango had a second shot at gold on PPV? Alas, New Day makes their return to PPV to go against the Usos … and honestly, I don’t think much will happen in this match — as letting either team win outright does neither favors.

I think the Usos do something to lose the match, but New Day walk away with the win.

Educated Guess: The New Day via count-out

Smackdown Women’s Championship

Naomi (C) vs Lana

Do we really have to go into this?

There is zero chance of Lana winning the title right now. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love Lana and am actually enjoying this gimmick — but it is WAY too early to hand her a title. When there were rumors of Eva Marie getting the title, you could at least make an argument for the INSANE amount of heat she would garner … but that’s never been the case for Lana. The title stays glowing.

Educated Guess: Naomi

WWE Championship

Jinder Mahal (C) vs Randy Orton

The Maharaja! Love him or hate him — for full disclosure, I love his championship reign so far — Jinder’s run has at least been interesting. Randy has been expected to take a break in the near future and one can only guess WWE isn’t going to shoehorn in another title run for little to no reason.

Expect those Singh boys to get in trouble again.

Educated Guess: Jinder Mahal

Women’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match

Becky Lynch vs Charlotte vs Carmella vs Tamina vs Natalya

TA – MI – NA RIGHT?!?

Kidding. Although I am going to be infuriated if Tamina doesn’t splash off a ladder, and don’t give me any guff about her knees, if they are that bad she shouldn’t be in a ladder match. That said, I’m honestly concerned for this match. Because knowing Vince McMahon, and despite this having the capacity to be incredible history, I think they get James Ellsworth involved in a big big way.

I like the winner I am picking, I just don’t like how I think they’ll do it …

Educated Guess: Carmella

Men’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match

AJ Styles vs Kevin Owens vs Baron Corbin vs Shinsuke Nakamura vs Sami Zayn vs Dolph Ziggler

I might be more excited for this Money In The Bank match than I’ve been for any of the others. For starters, I’m not angry with any potential winner. In my own humble opinion, there’s no person dragging this match down whatsoever.

At the end of the day though, they need a winner … and that man is the Lone Wolf, Baron Corbin.

Look at everyone else. They all more or less have natural paths to the championship, or have had their time in the sun (looking at you Ziggler). Corbin makes sense as they are still growing his character and he’s a guy that they can keep the case on for awhile.

Time to step up Baron. You’re on deck.

Educated Guess: Baron Corbin
