Ian Rotten's alleged "unprovoked physical altercation" with a female wrestler is not being investigated by police ... however, law enforcement has confirmed officers believe a "mutual battery" incident did occur.

Pro Wrestling Sheet spoke with a rep for the Clark County Sheriff's Department who says officers spoke to both parties on-scene and were given conflicting stories.

As we previously reported, a physical altercation occurred on April 19 at an IWA Mid-South show between former ECW wrestler Ian Rotten and wrestler Roni Nicole. One source told us Rotten pulled Nicole by the hair during the rough encounter. However, Ian has denied any wrongdoing.

Law enforcement officials tell us the interviews determined that a mutual battery incident occurred, but neither party wanted to press charges ... so it was left at that.

We're told if either side wants to pursue their legal options after the fact though, the sheriff's department will open an official investigation.
