The Sheet has confirmed Dave Bautista was in talks with WWE about tagging with Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 34, but he didn't refuse the offer ... and the reason things fell through is surprising.

The Observer first reported there were talks this week and sources tell us before Kurt Angle was locked in as Ronda's partner, Triple H had multiple conversations with Bautista about filling the role.

We're told the lengthy talks went well and it seemed as though they'd use the match to plant the seed for Triple H vs. Batista at WrestleMania 35 -- the feud the "Guardians of the Galaxy" star has openly said he wants to return to WWE for -- when things suddenly changed.

We're told the last conversation they had was in January and the actor had a strong feeling he was booked for Mania, but then he never heard from Triple H or anyone in WWE again.

Two months later, Angle was announced as Rousey’s partner — without so much as a courtesy call to say they were going in a different direction or an update when Bautista reached out to them.

Keep in mind: Dave Bautista stars in Marvel's "Infinity War" which comes out later this month and is expected to be one of the biggest movies of all-time.
