An infamous tape featuring rare footage of a match between Bret Hart and a wrestler by the name of Tom Magee may have been unearthed ... and wrestling fans are VERY excited about it.

First, some backstory. Tom Magee -- a former powerlifter from Winnipeg -- met Vince McMahon in the 80s and the WWE exec allegedly saw him as the heir apparent to Hulk Hogan.

The legend goes Vince had Bret Hart work a match with Magee that was excellent, which caused McMahon to become even more excited about Magee's prospects. However, Magee's wrestling career never truly took off ... because he wasn't very good.

The aforementioned match was apparently recorded, but WWE has never officially released it, and all copies were thought to be completely lost ... until now.

Last night on Twitter, a woman who had previously worked with Bret to convert footage for his archives shared an image of a tape she recently discovered amongst a collection of cassettes labeled "Bret vs. Tom McGhee."

A discussion ensued about the legitimacy of the tape, with some questioning whether or not it was the right match because the date written on the tape doesn't correlate with the date it took place.

Former WWE Superstar and Hart-Family member TJ Wilson chimed in, however, saying he doesn't "doubt the legitimacy of [the tape] at all."

The woman says she'll have a VHS player in her possession by the end of the week and will know if it's the match in question then. "This is not a stunt, April Fools Prank or anything else," she tweeted. "People who know me personally can validate that is not my style. I’m not looking for internet fame, I was looking for something else in that bag & remembered people talking last week about the match."
